There is an available USB port on your computer: If you connect through a USB hub or docking station, the printer might not receive enough power to properly operate. You do not need to complete the remaining steps in this section if the setup is successful. If Easy Start fails or your printer is not listed on Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads , enter your printer model, if prompted, and then confirm the operating system version is correct. Find out the name of the printer you'd like to add, which should be indicated on label affixed to the printer itself.
Printers names are usually based around where the printer is located, such as your department name or the room number where the printer is, such as "kplzlw" or " cla -hist-copy".
If you cannot find the label on the printer, try asking a colleague first. If you are still unsure, contact ITSS x and we will help you identify the printer. Tip: If you had trouble finding out the name of your printer, do your co-workers a nice favor; label with the printer's name right to the printer itself.

If your printer is listed in the preference pane's printer list sidebar, highlight it and look at its Status. If it says idle , the Mac sees the printer even though it isn't in use. You're all set.
